Quick Verdict

One card holder wallet keeps your cards behind a magnetic flap so they can’t pop open in your pocket. The other leaves them out in the open for faster grabs. Both hold up to 12 cards, both block RFID, and both stay slim. Pick based on which trade-off you’d rather live with.

Buy if you:

  • Want a slim front-pocket card holder that carries 10-12 cards
  • Like the pop-up mechanism where you press and cards fan out in steps
  • Need a couple of ID windows for a license and a work badge
  • Want RFID blocking without a bulky billfold

Two Card Holders, One Pop-Up Trick

Close-up of open RFID bifold wallet showing extended pop-up card holder with metal mechanism and inserted cards

Press the side button and the cards fan out in a stepped stack, that one mechanical trick is the whole reason to buy either of these KAFELLON pop-up card holders. The only real question is whether you want a magnetic leather flap snapping shut over them between uses, or you’re fine leaving the stack exposed for a faster grab. Same aluminum body, same 0.6-inch profile, same pop-up mechanism. One covered, one not. That’s the decision this review exists to make for you.

Sizewise, they’re very, very similar. Both black, both got that little design going on. One is a tad bigger overall, widthwise and depthwise. But the real split is how they handle your cash and whether your cards sit hidden or out in the open. That’s the decision.

How the Pop-Up Card Holder Is Built

0.6 inches thick and holds 10-12 cards: the aluminum chamber and leather flap do the heavy lifting without bulk. The aluminum chamber does the heavy lifting with the pop-up stack, and the leather flap handles the rest with 2 ID windows built in. Press the side button and the cards slide out in a stepped layout so you can pick the one you want.

On the first one, you can put a card here, up to two cards in another spot, and then push about seven cards into the main slot. These just pop in. Pop in. And when they pop in, it locks it in. They’re not coming out until you push and pull one loose, then push it back in. It’s kind of an up and down thing there.

Both are 6063 space-grade aluminum and carbon fiber, both carry a 2-year warranty, and both are RFID protectors. If someone walks by trying to scan, they can’t swipe any of your credit card info.

What Happened When I Loaded Them Up

I stuffed 12 cards into the first one and the width barely moved. It hasn’t really gotten too much fatter, even with a full stack. That’s the part that sells this style over a fat leather wallet. You keep the same slim body and the pop-up does all the work.

The two ID slots are handy. One’s got that typical see-through window where you slide the card out. The other is more open, made to slide into two little metal slots that lock into place. It’s magnetic, so it holds the ID on there and it’s not falling out.

The money clip on the back holds folded dollar bills, and on the first version it barely changes the width. The pop-up itself is satisfying. Press, the cards step out, you grab one, push it back down. No fumbling.

The Open-Face Cards Are Always Exposed

Here’s the one thing that gave me pause. On the version without the covering flap, the cards are always going to be open. There’s a leather flap on the other model that covers up the little pop-up, and because it’s magnetized, there’s like no way really to accidentally open it. Even when it’s closed I can’t get those to pop. I’ve got to open it up first, then it lets me.

The open one? Always exposed. Is that more convenient? Perhaps. Is the covered one safer? Perhaps. If you toss your wallet loose in a bag or a jacket pocket with keys, the open-face design is the one I’d worry about. That’s not a deal-breaker, it’s just worth knowing before you pick.

Who Each Version Actually Fits

If you carry cash and want it stored flat, the bifold-style version is your pick. You can slide dollar bills in at full length and fold them up inside instead of creasing them. That comfort comes at a cost though. This one is going to be thicker, especially with cash in there, which pushes it out a little.

If you barely carry cash and want the slimmest possible front-pocket card holder, the leaner version wins, 12 cards in and the width barely moves from that 0.6-inch baseline. The gift-box packaging is a genuine bonus if you’re buying for someone else: the carbon fiber finish reads expensive in a way that’s hard to telegraph at this price point, and there’s nothing to charge or set up before handing it over.

Covered Flap vs Open Face: The Real Choice

The huge difference here is how each one holds cash and whether it covers up your pop-up. The flap model wraps and protects. The open model gives you a faster grab but leaves cards exposed the whole time. Everything else is close: both are slim, both hit 10-12 cards, both block RFID, both have the same 2-year warranty.

So it comes down to safe-and-slightly-thicker versus fast-and-fully-open. If you toss your wallet loose in a bag, get the flap. If your wallet lives in a dedicated front pocket and you want the fastest possible card grab, get the open face. The last sentence, “different unique minimalistic opportunities”, is gibberish; cut it.

Advice Before You Order

Count your cards first. Seven go in the pop-up slot, and the rest spread across the extra pockets and ID windows, so if you’re carrying more than a dozen this style isn’t for you. Decide up front whether you actually fold cash into your wallet, because that answer picks the version for you more than anything else.

And test the pop-up a few times when it arrives. Push cards in, pop them out, get the feel for the stepped release. Once you learn the up-and-down motion, pulling a card is quicker than digging through a normal bifold.

Pros

  • Slim 0.6-inch body that barely thickens even with 12 cards loaded
  • Pop-up mechanism locks cards in and fans them out in a stepped layout
  • Two ID windows, including a magnetic open slot that holds the card firmly
  • RFID blocking on both versions
  • Money clip on the back holds folded bills without much bulk on the slim model

Cons

  • Open-face version leaves cards exposed at all times, easier to bump loose in a bag
  • Cash-carrying bifold model gets noticeably thicker once bills go in
  • Pop-up caps at seven cards, so heavy carriers spread the rest across smaller slots

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this card holder block RFID scanning?

Yes, both versions are RFID protectors. If someone walks by trying to scan, they can’t grab your credit card information through the aluminum body.

How many cards does the pop-up slot actually hold?

The pop-up slot holds a maximum of seven cards. Total capacity is 10-12 once you use the extra pockets and the ID windows.

Can I keep cash in it without folding the bills?

On the bifold-style version, yes. You slide bills in at full length and fold them up inside, so they don’t get creased. The trade-off is that model runs thicker with cash in it.

Will the cards fall out of the open-face model?

The pop-up cards lock in place once pushed down, so they stay put during normal use. But the open-face version has no flap covering them, so they’re exposed and can get bumped loose more easily in a loose bag than the magnetic flap model.

Is it slim enough for a front pocket?

Yes. At 0.6 inches thick it’s built for front-pocket carry, and the slim version barely widens even fully loaded with 12 cards.

Does it need an app or any setup?

No. It’s a mechanical pop-up card holder with no electronics, app, battery, or account. Press the side button and the cards slide out. That’s it.

What’s the warranty?

It comes with a 2-year worry-free warranty. Since the body is 6063 aluminum and carbon fiber, there’s no leather to crack or stitching to blow out like a traditional wallet.

Does it work as a gift?

Yes, both ship in a gift box and the carbon fiber finish looks sharp out of the packaging. It’s an easy pick for a birthday or Father’s Day if the guy carries a bulky wallet now.

Which version should I pick?

Pick the magnetic flap version if you want cards covered and protected, and pick the open-face version if you want the fastest grab and carry little cash. If you fold cash daily, the bifold model with the full-length bill slot is the more comfortable carry despite the extra thickness.

The open-face version exposes cards to bag-bumping, and the cash bifold gets visibly thicker with bills inside. Skip if you carry more than 12 cards, since the pop-up caps at seven. Skip it if you carry more than 12 cards, since the pop-up caps at seven. A flap option on the slim version would push both variants closer to a five.
