I Just Dropped My Above Ground Pool Vacuum In

I dropped the Seagull SE in, walked away for 90 minutes, and pulled out a debris chamber packed with dead bugs, leaves, and dirt I hadn’t touched in weeks. That’s the whole case for this thing. It’s a cordless robot vacuum for flat above-ground pools, wheels and brushes on the bottom, 44.4 Wh battery inside, one button to start. You can check the current price on Amazon here. No cord to trip over. No canister to drag. You push a button, watch the lights come on, and set it down. That’s the whole pitch, and for a flat pool it mostly holds up.

What’s Inside the Seagull SE

Cordless, self-parking, and rated for 90 minutes of cleaning per charge. It’s built for flat above-ground pools up to 860 sq ft. You charge it on the bottom of the unit, then a single button press wakes it up. The lights let you know it’s charged, and there’s a 4-color LED indicator so you can read its status at a glance.

The wheels and brushes on the bottom do the moving and the scrubbing. Inside is a 44.4 Wh lithium-ion battery running 6 cells. When the battery runs low it self-parks near the wall so you’re not fishing around for it.

The Zigzag Path Is Random, and That’s Fine

The Seagull SE doesn’t run a grid, it bounces. When it hit my ladder, a flap opened and it redirected itself in a new direction. It did that over and over for 90 minutes, and the wrinkles in my pool liner didn’t stop it. If you need every inch covered in order, that’s not what this does. If you just need the floor cleared, the random path gets there.

Here’s the part that matters on drop-in: don’t just throw it. I like to hold it in the water until I feel it’s not taking on any more bubbles. That way it safely goes down to the bottom. You’ll see it turn white, and it takes off once it does that. It’ll pick up all the debris it encounters over its 90 minutes of cleaning.

When I came back it had stopped over against the sidewall, and the pool looked clean. I didn’t expect a lot, but there was a bunch of little stuff packed down in the chamber.

You’ll Need Two Hands to Get It Out

It’s very lightweight, but you will need two hands. I used a hook to pull it up off the bottom, then I needed a second hand to grab it once it broke the surface. So one hand on the hook, one hand on the unit. Not a big deal, but if you were picturing a one-handed lift out, that’s not how it goes.

Once it’s up, hold it on the side of the pool for a second. There are lots of little spots where the water drains out, so you can let it empty before you carry it over to clean it. That drainage saves you from lugging a unit full of pool water across the yard.

Emptying It Takes a Minute to Learn

To open it up you pop the two end pieces first, then the side pieces flex out. Normally you’ll need two hands for that, but if you work it the right way you can kind of get them off one at a time. Any debris is going to be sitting under there, and most of it simply dumps out. You’ll want to rinse the rest off, though, not just tip it and call it done.

Here’s the friction: it only goes back together one way. So make sure you line everything up. The motor also goes on one way only. The sides pop down, the two end pieces clip in, and you’re ready to go. It’s not hard, but the first reassembly had me lining things up until it seated correctly.

Who This Above Ground Pool Vacuum Is For

This is for the flat above-ground pool owner who’s done vacuuming by hand. It needs a completely flat surface, so you can’t have changes of depth or anything like that. If your pool bottom slopes or steps down, this isn’t your unit.

If your pool floor is flat and you’re pulling out a manual vacuum every week for leaves, bugs, and dirt, this replaces that whole routine with a button press. I set it down, went inside, and came back to a chamber packed with debris. The cordless design means there’s nothing to unspool, drag, or trip over, you just retrieve it when it’s parked itself against the wall.
