My Wife Loved The Ororo Heated Vest at 30 Degrees
It comes in a zippered case with the vest, a USB-C battery pack, and a little pouch to hold the battery and cord. Simple setup. Nothing confusing about what’s in the box.
How the ORORO Heated Vest Actually Works
Four zones heat: collar, mid-back, chest, pockets, all carbon fiber, all wired to a single battery pack that slots into the left pocket. There’s one pocket on the left side with a cord inside that plugs into the battery pack. I’ll be, there are two slots on that battery and I haven’t figured out why there’s two. You plug into one, throw the battery back in the pocket, zip it up, and you’re set.
The single button runs three heat levels. Hold it down and it turns white for on, push again and it goes blue for mid-grade, push once more and it hits red for high heat. On the battery itself there’s an indicator light with four lights so you know how charged it is. ORORO rates it up to 10 hours of runtime on low and the battery is UL-certified with 800+ charge cycles.
It Heats Up Fast, But It Won’t Burn You
I pressed the button and felt the collar zone go warm before I’d even dropped my hand. That’s not a figure of speech, the carbon fiber panels are close enough to the skin that you can press a finger against the fabric and pinpoint exactly which zone is firing: collar, chest, abdomen, back. Most heated layers take a minute to convince you they’re working. This one doesn’t.
It’s not going to be hot by any means. This isn’t so hot you’re burning yourself. It’s a steady, comfortable warmth that keeps your core happy. By the end of my few minutes with it on I could feel it was already warm and had to turn it off, which you do by holding the button until the light goes out.
Pull the Battery Out, You’ll Forget Otherwise
The one thing you have to build into your routine: take the battery out when you’re done. I wouldn’t leave it plugged in inside that pocket. Pull it out just to be safe and also so you don’t run it down. It even comes with a little holder to cover the battery port so you don’t get dust or water in it, which matters if you’re out hiking or in the snow.
And that mystery two-slot battery still bugs me. I plugged into one and everything worked fine, but I haven’t figured out what the second slot is for. Not a dealbreaker, just one of those things the vest doesn’t explain.

Who This Vest Is Really For
The sweet spot is activity where you’re moving enough to not freeze but stopping often enough to get cold, hiking, lift lines, a long outdoor commute. The vest is thin enough to zip a shell over on the descents and unzip when you’re climbing. People who stay stationary in deep cold will probably want it cranked to red the whole time and should temper expectations on battery life.
The wash bag and zippered carry case are small things, but they signal ORORO thought about the full ownership loop, not just the first wear. When something goes in a hiking pack regularly, a dedicated case means it actually comes back out undamaged.
A Couple Tips Before You Wear It
Charge the battery first and check the four indicator lights so you know where you stand before heading out. Start on low, since it heats up quickly and low already got warm on me fast. Cover the battery port with the little holder when you’re in wet or dusty conditions, and stick the battery somewhere safe when you take it out. Remember to remove it before you machine wash the vest.
